Gossip Girl Finale Redux: Blair Chooses Her Man! So What Comes Next?
Chair For the Win? Blair chose Chuck! After an internal debate about which love is better—with Dan she feels safe, with Chuck she feels vulnerable—Blair ended up choosing Chuck. Alas, timing was, once again, not on their side as Chuck had just been ousted from Bass Industries by his recently resurrected father for always putting Blair before the company.
Don't worry, Chair fans, Blair isn't going down without a fight! In fact, she followed Chuck to a European casino, where she literally, and metaphorically, bet it all on him. Too bad we have to wait all summer to find out if Chuck called her bet. Of ending the season with a possible Chuck and Blair reunion, Savage says, " I think it was just a question of arcing out that relationship so it ended in a place where it was Blair coming to declare that she was in it to win it with Chuck and leaving that as the question of season six."
The Return of Old Serena: She's ba-a-ack! After accidentally leaking Blair's diary pages to Gossip Girl, there was nothing accidental about what Serena did next: manipulating Dan to cheat on Blair. Yes, Dan and Serena had sex, but once Dan found out Serena recorded their tryst (in the very same place she slept with Nate back in the pilot flashback!), he wanted nothing to do with her. Cue Serena leaving town, doing drugs and hooking up with some random dude (played by Cobra Starship lead singer Gabe Saporta).
"The final shot of Serena on the train, [having] Serena leave town as we saw her come back into town in the pilot, was definitely very deliberate," Savage explains. "The idea now feeling that she's lost Blair, she's lost Dan, she's sort of all by herself again. It's going to put her in a very precarious emotional situation when we start season six."

Dair Down For the Count? Things are looking pretty bleak for Dan and Blair, who were recently in a very good place. After reading Blair's leaked diary, he issued her an ultimatum and let his insecurities get the best of him...hence the whole sleeping with Serena part of the episode. As for Blair, she just didn't love Dan the way she loves Chuck. Scorned by the two women in his life, Dan ended the episode teaming up with Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) to write an explosive tell-all book about the Upper East Side, the book he should have written all along, he says ominously.
So does this mean the romantic portion of Dan and Blair's relationship has come to an indefinite end? "I never like to say yay or nay to that type of question, but we crafted the last act of the episode to set us in certain direction next year," Savage says. As for whether or not Blair will find out that Dan cheated on her, Savage teases, "If somebody had a sex tape on their cell phone and Gossip Girl and they said they deleted, but you never saw that it was deleted..."
Pedal-to-the-Metal Season Six: Savage says the writers have been rewatching the pilot and talking about their favorite episodes to prepare for the series' final season, which she says will be 10 or 11 episodes long. (The CW will make an official announcement on Thursday at their upfront presentation.) "It'll be really sad and weird when it's over, but we're leaving it all on the floor," Savage says of the final episodes. "We're really want them to count and for every one to be really special."
Savage says the final season will definitely be "focusing on our core characters," and later clarifies, "that does include Georgina." So will Michelle Trachtenberg be appearing in all of G.G.'s remaining episodes, possibly as a regular? It's something that we're talking about," Savage says.
